Possibly one of these is a misprint for 1856)..7,8

Jeptha was listed as the head of household in the 1860 Census in Independence Township, Appanoose County, Iowa. He was 34, born in Indiana, and listed as a farmer. Other individuals listed in the household were his wife Margaret (28 IN); and 2 daughters, Sarah ( 6, IA) and Clarissa (2, IA).9
